History Familia Nin i Ortiz
Ester Nin and Carles Ortiz are the happy owners of a very tiny estate located between Porrera and Torroja, whose (rented) winery is in Gratallops. Born in Pla de Manlleu (Alt Penedès), Ester is an oenologist and a biologist. Carles cares for the vines – with his two mules Negret and Max. Ester is famous for her work as an oenologist at Clos Erasmus, in Gratallops (incidentally, the couple make their wine in this very cellar) and for NUN, Enric Sole’s white blend, in Penedès. All the projects Ester works for are biodynamic. In 2004, she bought a small vineyard (roughly 1 hectare) on a sheer slope, Mas d’en Caçador, high on the road from Porrera to Torroja. 2004 also was the year of the first Nit de Nin (one barrel only). This wine immediately received very high marks and became a cult wine. At the beginning, all Buena Vida could get was an allocation of 60 bottles per year, but with such small quantities we preferred not to put them on our catalogue. Yet some years ago, Ester and Carles secured some more old vines of Grenache and Carignan in Porrera, and planted new ones on slopes; this is how their second wine was born: Planetes de Nin. Its production is still very limited, but now sufficient to appear on our list.
