History Elías Mora
In 1998, two friends, Marivi Pariente and Viki Benavides founded a new wine estate in Rueda, under the name of «Dos Victorias». In the beginning, they made their wine in another bodega, for want of money. After a while, they built their own cellar nearby San Roman de Hornija, but this village lies in the Toro area, not the Rueda area. So they could make their red under the Toro label, but not their Rueda white (Spanish law does not allow to make two different DO’s in the same cellar). So the two friends had to separate the two activities in 2007. Marivi Pariente built her own bodega in Rueda, under the name of «José Pariente» and Viki Benavides kept the San Roman de Hornija cellar, under the name of «Elías Mora». Both women gave to their wineries the names of men who had worked the vines for long years before them. Right from the start, their idea was to use only old vines in Toro too; so the two went looking for old growers who would agree to sell them the grapes of their vines. One of them was a certain Elías Mora. This fit eighty-year-old man had spent his whole life tending his Tinta de Toro vines. Viki makes three wines; each has its own personality but she strives to bring to the three her little feminine touch, even if Tinta de Toro tends to give solid, powerful wines.
