Ulterior is a project that saw the light in 2007. Planting was done in el Romeral, in the center of La Mancha (Tomelloso). At the base was Elias López-Montero, according to Decanter one of Spain's most promising oenologists. With great respect for his terroir and his history, Elias manages to make beautiful wines that underscore the authenticity of his region.

Vinification
The entire Ulterior project consists of organic vineyards. A study was even worked out in collaboration with the Instituto de la Vid to determine which native grape varieties would be best suited to cope with climate change. The grapes are picked manually and receive their vinification on Terracota amforae. Only 10% ripen on large holding fouders.

Trial analysis
A Garnacha full of finesse.Blind in the glass this wine is reminiscent of the refinement of Comando G and Dani landi. Elegant and finesse, supple and easy drinkable. In the mid-palate a touch of sunshine which brings out the fruit beautifully with a very refined tannic structure.

The 2019 Ulterior - Parcela 6 Garnacha has a very pale and evolved color with some orange tints and a perfumed and nuanced nose with notes of red licorice, berries, herbs and cherries in liqueur, despite its moderate 13.5% alcohol. It's medium-bodied and tasty, with fine tannins and pungent flavors of roses and red berries with a chalky feeling. 9,000 bottles were filled in August 2022 after the wine spent 14 months in tinaja.

Wine estate

This family estate lies in the heart of La Mancha. In 2007, with the Ulterior-project, at Finca El Romeral, Elias (one of the 4 brothers and sister) decided to replant old local varieties to make authentic wines with a sense of terroir. These local grapes, are better adapted to the climate change.

Daniel Landi is one of the most talked-about young winemakers in Spain. He has set Sierra de Gredos back on the wine map of Spain. This Uvas de la Ira blend (Spanish for Grapes of Wrath, like the John Steinbeck novel) is his entry level wine. But what an entry level wine! It is made with old grenaches from different part of the Sierra, mainly on slate (pizarra).
