Vinification
50% of the cuvée is aged in stainless steel tanks and 50% in vats, for 6 months. No malolactic fermentation in order to preserve the freshness and tension of the wine.

Trial analysis
There is more minerality and tension here than in your average exotic fruit-driven Albariño. Very large on the palate, very log long. Its good acidity will ensure that this wine can age well.

The 2023 Cíes is the white village wine from Meaño, from different vineyards, and it is elegant and subtle, insinuating and detailed. It fermented and matured in barrels of different sizes where it matured for six months. It has moderate ripeness and 12.2% alcohol with very good freshness (pH 3.46) and acidity (7.45 grams), which makes it vibrant and pungent, with saline flavors and a super tasty finish. It is sharp, precise and mineral.

Wine estate

This is one of the smallest estates in Rias Baixas, but well known from the connoisseurs.
Since 2005, the current generation, with Rodri at the helm, has been making super whites but also great reds with a typical Atlantic and Galician accent.
Organic cultivation and vinification, minimal intervention. Definitely not wines for beginners.

Description

Rodri Méndez is one of the best producers of Albariño wines in Galicia. Leirana is his entry level wine, but also the perfect illustration of his style: non frills, crisp, and sharp. Rodri mainly works with older vines, and those are put into good use, in this wine as well as in his top range (the Goliardo line).
