The area under vine is around 4,000 hectares; it allows white and red wines, but the plantations of red are much larger.
The soils are composed of granite or limestone. The landscape is made of soft rolling hills.
The zone is a perfect transition between the flat continental Spain and the Mediterranean Spain, which explains the climate, characterised by a high temperature amplitude between day and night, cold winters and hot summers.
The D.O. is divided in six subzones; the main are Raimat (named after the estate), Artesa, Valls de Ruicorb and Garrigues.
