History Toro Albalá
Toro Albalá is a unique bodega. Its history goes back to 1844, when the Prieto family began to make and age wine (for they are “cosecheros” as well as “criaderos”, as the Andalusians say);It was mainly the fino quality. As decennia went by, wines have been stored in the “nave de crianza” (the ageing cellar). These wines are now amongst the oldest of the area, and even Andalusia. Thanks to his grandparents, today Antonio Sánchez possesses exceptional wines. Or should we say that Antonio is possessed by these exceptional wines? And not only by the wines, but by the history and the culture of his region. For instance, he has collected some 4,000 archaeological items he has found in his vineyards since he took over at the winery. Antonio is an oenologist , an alchemist, an inventor and he is passionate about everything linked with Pedro Ximenez. His estate and original “naves de crianza” are located in Aguilar de la Frontera. Antonio also bought old cellars in Moriles and Lucena,, which contain treasures of old Pedro Ximenez wines. Montilla-Moriles is especially renowned for its sweet wines – and there are many sorts and ages of them. Although they are made with white grapes, they are brown, nearly black. These are perfect companions for chocolate desserts. At la Buena Vida, we have a collection of these unique wines - one of the largest in the world, in all modesty.
