Varieties Mesquida i Mora
The grapes that are used on the estate were mainly planted by Jaume and Bàrbara’s father, who was the first to introduce French varieties on the island. Meanwhile, the two were lucky enough to be able to buy vines of old local grapes – and they now wish to put the emphasis on them. They are still buying old vines of Premsal, Callet and Mantonegro. The estate encompasses 32 hectares, divided between 12 varietals, of which the most important are Premsal (8 hectares), Cabernet Sauvignon (8 hectares also), Chardonnay (6 hectares) and Callet (5 hectares). They also have smaller blocks of Monastrell, Macabeu, Parellada, Tempranillo, Merlot, Pinot Noir, Syrah and Riesling. Callet – an indigenous grape – survived to the phylloxera. With its big bunches, it can produce very high yields. The wines it produces are not high in alcohol and they have a light colour. They only make great wines on good terroirs – with nice and interesting Mediterranean aromas. Callet blends well with Mantonegro, which has a higher alcohol potential.
