The general concept of the winery is the struggle between nature and human. Nature is wild and free and after beautiful cycles it always tends to death. The land, the grapes growing, the fermentation of the must and then the ageing are marked by human intervention at the right moment and in the most gentle way to get the best of it and finally have a wine with the expression of the land, the grapes and the human… Màquina means Machine – the human, and tabla means piece of wood – nature. Human interventions mark nature.
This small project was started in 2012. Before, Oriol had worked as an enologist at several small estates in Catalonia and Castilla-Leon. Susana was active in the arts - and she is responsible for the project's identity. Right from the start, their wines attracted the attention of the Spanish sommeliers. The reward for selecting with the utmost care the old parcels of vines. they work organic and add only sulphur with the bottling.
Tinta fina, Mencía, Garnacha, Verdejo, Doña Blanca, Palomino, Albillo, Malvasía, Godello... As Oriol wants to respect the old vineyards, he makes the same blends of grapes he finds in the vines.
As the couple makes wines from parcels all around Castilla-Leon, the terroirs are quite diverse, from continental (Toro, Rueda) to Atlantic (El Bierzo, Sil). Soils are also very diverse from clay and marl (El Bierzo) to stony limestone (Rueda and Toro). Some of the vines are pre-phylloxeric.
Full biodynamics. According to the blends, the grapes are de-stemmed or not. No yeasts, enzymes, sulphur or any additive is used during maceration and fermentation. The large foudres used to age the wines are neutral, they give no tannins nor toast taste to the wines. As the whites ferment spontaneously, a veil of flor may form in certain vintages. This give the wines a great personality, on the nose as well as on the palate - a personality many of the whites from Castilla have lost. Yet this winemaking method was traditional in the region, and is being revived by many bodegas using biodynamics.

This red wine was born after owner Oriol traveled to Germany to attend a concert. Upon his return, he wanted to create the ideal red wine to enjoy at a concert, picnic or with friends. Thus was born El Oso y la Alemana, an intense, flavorful red Toro with lots of character.
Sold as Vino de la Tierra de Castilla, this wine comes from vines located with the Toro DO. Il is made mainly with Verdejo and Malvasia, but as they are franc-de-pied (ungrafted) vines, they also include some Muscat, Albillo and Albariño plants.
This Páramos de Nicasia is Oriol & Susana's "village wine" in Toro. It comes from an old ungrafted vine in Villaester, North West of the Douro, on sandy soils. Besides the typical Tinta de Toro, one can find there quite a lot of Grenache and Malvasia. If you add to all of this Oriol's very traditional approach to winemaking, you get a really singular Toro.
