History José Gil
José Gil's family owns a small wine estate in San Vincente de la Sonsierra (Olmaza). There he grew up and found his winemaking style, with the inspiration of the new generation of Spanish winemakers like Artadi, Abel Mendoza, Contador, Remirez de Ganuza and Artuke. After a stay in Burgundy, where he caught the Burgundy-virus, he decided to go and work solo with some plots of vine he owns, in the company of his partner Vicky. 2016, their first vintage, was immediately hailed as a great success by the wine critics who wrote about the small estate as 'the next big thing in Rioja'. Their production is still very limited (6,500 bottles). Today, José & Vicky produce one 'village-wine' and four crus (600 bottles each). Their wines are aged in an old 'calado', the traditional name given to the underground cellars delved in the stone, near San Vicente. Everything is done very naturally, with a minimum of intervention.
