In this valley are produced mainly nice, simple white wines, good price-relation products, mainly drunk locally.
The vineyard lies around 300 m above sea level.
Valdeorras is less famous for its wines than for its schist – it is even the largest schist expoter in the world. So guess what the subsoils of the vineyard is composed of?
The main grape here is Godello (also to be found, but in smaller proportions, in other Galician D.O.’s). This grape is potentially good, but its culture is labour intensive.
Valdeorras also produce some Mencía reds.
In the higher valleys (Bibei), making wine is much more difficult; the vines grow on terraces between 600 and 800 m above sea level.
This region certainly has a great potential for white wines.
