The appellation area lies between two rivers, the Gabriel and the Jucar.
The soils in the valleys have more clay, while the higher grounds have more limestone - some are even 100% limestone. Altitude (between 400 and 700m) is a positive factor.
Bobal -) a red grape - is the main varietal here, but one also finds a lot of local and mostly forgotten grapes like moravia agria, pintaillo, marisancho, merseguera, albillo, monastrell and macabeu. Syrah and other international varieties are also gaining some ground.
