Varieties The Sadie Family Wines
The Sadie range includes blends (his signature wines, like Columella and Palladius) and single vineyard cuvées (the Ouwingerd line), i.e.: -Skurfberg: Chenin Blanc (3 parcels on 90 year-old vines on sandstone and sand in the Olifantsriver region). -Kokerboom: Sémillon Blanc (aka Groendruif) and Sémillon Gris planted around 1930 in the Olifantsriver region. -Mev. Kirsten: a parcel of Chenin Blanc in Jonkershoek, planted between 1905 and 1920 on granite sub-soil. The name is that of the owner and it is said to be the oldest Chenin in all South Africa. -’t Voetpad: fieldblend of Sémillon Blanc, Sémillon Gris, Palomino, Chenin and Muscat d’Alexandrie, planted in 1928 in Piketberg (Swartland). This vineyard is said to have been planted by Dirk Brand for his own consumption, and gives today a very original and complex wine. -Skerpioen: field blend of 45% Chenin Blanc and 55% Palomino, more than 80 years-old vines. Skerpioen is in the North of the coastal part of Swartland, on calcareous sols and benefits from the moderating influence of the ocean. -Palladius: a blend of Chenin Gris, Chenin Blanc, Marsanne, Sémillon, Clairette, Viognier, Rousanne, Verdelho, Palomino, Colombard, coming from 17 different parcels in Swartland.
