History Bodegas Roman

After a first career in wine selling, José Manuel decided to buy a small bodega and some vines. He started his company with the help of his brother-in-law, who is the chief oenologist at the Borsao cooperative, which buys most of the grapes in this region. Then he was joined by his son Hector. The two have different visions of wine: Hector likes them very ripe and aged in wood, whereas José Manuel's style looks more like what we are expecting from this region: high altitude grenaches, not too ripe, vinified and aged in concrete tanks.

22 hectares spread between a few fincas, at an altitude varying between 500 and 700 metres, with slopes up to 25%. This zone is called 'The Grenache Empire'.

Vinification Bodegas Roman

Harvesting by hand in 20kg crates, with an extra-screening at the cellar. Maceration from 8 to 12 days in concrete or stainless steel tanks at low temperatures. Then alcoholic fermentation at 24 to 28°C, also in tanks.
