Terroir Bodegas Licinia
All vineyards are organically farmed. -Finca El Castillo: this block is located in the Tajuña Valley, 520 meters above sea level. It is planted with Syrah, with a selected grass covering (Bromus hordeadeus and Vulpia myuros). It has deep, sandy soils, rich in calcium carbonate. This vine is the lowest in altitude and its yield is around 17-20 hectolitres per hectare. -Finca El Serranillo: this small block of 3.8 hectares (only Cabernet Sauvignon, also with grass cover) is located a little higher in the Tajuña valley, at 550 m above sea level. Soils are similar to those at El Castillo, but the Cabernet is more productive (between 40 and 50 hl/ha). -Finca La Jara: west of Morata, still in the Tajuña Valley, but higher still, at 700 m above sea level. It is the largest block of the estate, with 20 hectares, planted with Tempranillo and Merlot. Soils are sandy (with high aquifers), rich in calcium carbonate having developed from miocene materials, gypsum and the likes, which generate salt deficits, especially in the lower layers. The surface layer contains a lot of limestone. The climate is continental, the winters are cold, frost is not rare, summers are hot (often more than 35°C) and dry. Rainfall is around 400-500 mm, mainly in spring and autumn.
