The D.O. Navarra comprises 5 viticultural subzones:
-Valdizarbe in the north, where the northernmost vineyards of Spain are to be found.
-Tierra Estella, in the northwest.
-Baja Montaña, in the northeast.
-Ribeja Alta, in the centre of the region.
-Ribeja Baja in the south, around the Ebro River.
Ribera Baja hosts most of the wine estates.
Navarre has a very diversified landscape and the vine grows there from 250 m to 600 m above sea level. Most of the region has a continental climate, ideal conditions to produce good wine. Grenache is still the most planted variety in the region before Tempranillo, but since the end of the 80’s, many news varietals have been planted, especially Cabernet and Merlot.
White wines are still only 5% of the production but attract more and more attention, especially in the south of Navarre, where Chardonnay and Viura can yield good results.
In the south, there is also a traditional production of sweet Muscat wine.
Most of the estates are very modern.
