This bodega is the new project of Vega Sicilia and Benjamin de Rothschild (owner of Lafite Rothschild). Started in 2004 in Samaniego (Rioja), 2009 was the first vintage to be released and and this Macán is the epitome of the exceptional work in these years. Knowledge, effort, patience and constant improvement have driven the growth of a project that currently comprises 98 hectares of vineyard. Only top vineyards from old vines from both Rioja Alta and Rioja Alavesa. The bodega was built brand new and 2016 is the first millésime fully vinified in this modern bodega.
Vinification
The grapes are carefully selected from the oldest vineyards. These are often terraced with poor gravel soils rich in loam and lime. Everything is hand-picked and vinification is done in inox cuves with autochthonous yeasts. Great attention is paid to fine extraction and extreme precision. The 16-month élevage is done partly in French barriques (50% new) and partly in a 4000L foeder.

Trial analysis
Deep colour of a young wine. The aromas range between power and elegance, with a hint of wood in the background. Soft and fruity tannins. Very melded with a nice roundness. An engaging and above all modern Rioja with packs of red fruit! No astringent tannins or dominant acids. All balanced with both juiciness and seriousness.
