Castro Ventosa is one of the oldest domains in Bierzo. This is the family domain of Spain's most famous oenologist Raul Pérez. Cova de la Raposa ('cave of the fox') is a vineyard located in the village of Abajo de Valtuille. Southern exposure on sandy soil. Not an easy plot and therefore this wine is not made every year. When it does succeed, the wine is truly great.
Rapoalo is a 3.5 hectare cru divided between some 6 winemakers, of which being Raul Pérez who produces wine from this cru with Ultreia and La Vizcaina. The vines are more than 100 years-old, the soils are mainly clay. The parcel sees the Sun quite late in the morning.
Garnatxa (85%), Syrah (15%)
Coma d'en Pou is a collective name referring to some vineyard at the East of Gandesa, at the foot of the Sierra de Cavalls. Coma means dale. Coma d'en Pou has a total area of 10 hectares, covered with vines and olive trees. The first vintage was made in 1996. The percetange of Cabernet sauvignon, very popular in the region in the 90's, is now decreasing in favour of the Grenache.
Cariñena (100%)
Carinyena (50%), Garnatxa (50%)
L'Hostal is a selection of the oldest Carignan vines from their vineyards and their new flagship cuvée. Sourced from a single 1.5-hectare plot of vines on clay-limestone soils. The vines are between 50 and 80 years old, with yields of just 1,000 kg/ha, all harvested by hand.
Garnatxa
This blend has always been the flagship of the estate... and an excellent price quality relation. In 1996, for its first vintage, the production was only a few barrels. Meanwhile, the vines (15 hectares) have grown older et also the know-how. Thanks to stricter selection of the grapes, the quality of wine has reached new levels.
Carinyena
Ritme Celler is the Priorat project of Albert Jané of Acústic in Montsant. He wants to make honest wines here in the same way that for him reflects the appellation. Only vieilles vignes are used, coming from 6 different villages throughout Priorat. Top price/quality! Albert has been working completely organically for about 10 years.
Ull de Llebre (68%), Garnatxa (26%), Cabernet Sauvignon (6%)
2018
This wine is a blend of bush vine Grenache, planted in the 60's and 70's, and other varieties planted in the 80's, in double Guyot. As the vineyard is facing South-West, the grapes get a maximum of sunshine and an optimal ripeness every year. Maceration and alcoholic fermentation in stainless steel tanks at 28°C during 25 days. Then the wine is put into Allier oak barrels, partly new, partly 2nd year. A small quantity of the Grenache goes into American oak.
Cabernet Sauvignon (27%), Garnatxa (27%), Tempranillo (27%), Cariñena (10%), Merlot (9%)
