Number 1
Who else but Raúl Pérez could claim the most successful table of last weekend…
It got a little tense when we heard last Wednesday that he wouldn’t be arriving at Zaventem on Friday evening but only Saturday afternoon. Friday morning, he had to make a last-minute trip to Lanzarote for a project.
And in Knokke, our tasting started at 1 PM… At 12:30, he still wasn’t answering his phone. Only at 1:05 PM did I finally reach him—he was on his way to Knokke. Phew… Our star was arriving 😉 !!
I’ve never seen so many selfies being taken during our tasting days! Our visitors couldn’t get enough of Raúl!
At first, his wines tasted a bit tight, but by Saturday evening—and especially by Sunday afternoon at our tasting in Herentals—they were delicious! Such fruit, such finesse, such complexity! Wow!
Johan and I spent a lot of time behind his table, not only because he kept stepping away from it,
but also because we couldn’t get enough of his delightful Ultreia’s 2022.
The winner was the Valdecañada 2019—what finesse!
Unfortunately, it’s completely sold out, but with a bit of luck, we’ll receive a new allocation of 90 bottles by February.

Number 2
Another great classic took second prize for best table! Our most classic Ribera del Duero: Hnos Pérez Pascuas.
Not surprisingly, Juan, with his Dutch mother, speaks perfect Dutch, which made communication with wine enthusiasts very smooth…
The Pedrosa Reserva 2019 was the winner here. Logical! Great vintage, great value, and with plenty of potential.

Its big brother, the Gran Reserva 2018, took a very close second place.

Number 3
The big name at the tasting was, of course, the final table: Vega Sicilia.
And the winner at this table, by a wide margin, was the
Macán 2019 from Rioja. Again, a 2019—a great vintage in Rioja.
We already tasted this with our
Roda I Reserva.
The last cases of this masterpiece have just arrived. And believe me, it’s even better in Magnum. We’ve also received a few of those.
Don’t hesitate to bring home this masterpiece from both Spain (Vega Sicilia) and France (the Rothschilds).
And in 2019, a magnum might be an even better investment…
